4th spot Assured

Liverpool came from two goals down to level the match to 2-2. This result assured Liverpool Euro qualification for next season unless Everton won their last 3 matches with rugby score.

I expected Rafa to field a weaken side with the return leg of the Champion League at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. Liverpool never look like posing any danger to Birmingham in the first half. The Reds only came alive after the interval. However Birmingham extended their lead through Larsson. Crouch and Youssi's goal ensure the Blues get the blues.

P.S - In my previous post, I questioned Rafa for bringing in Riise. Now I understand that Aurellio was injured. Sorry Rafa for that.

Riise "lost" it for Liverpool

It's advantage Chelsea!!!! The Blues took a small step towards the Champion League Final with a 1-1 darw at Anfield. Liverpool lead 1-0 through Kuyt when the unthinkable happen.

With the last kick of the game, Riise scored an own goal after a cross by Kalou. Instead of clearing with his feet, he chose to head hoping to go over the post for a corner but to his horror, the ball flew into the net.

What was Riise thinking? He has a bad season by his own standard and is behind Aurelio for the left back position. This is the last thing he can do....

It was a nerve-wrecking match to watch with my heart ponding faster and faster as the goal progresees. When it was almost time, I was glad that Liverpool will take a slender lead to Stamford Bridge but a brainless, stupid and unforgiveable error costs Liverpool the tie. Chelsea is hot favourite to progress to the final now.

All is not lost if Liverpool can get an away goal. However that will be hard as Liverpool has not scored at Stamford Bridge for 3 years now. Chelsea need only a 0-0 to progress while the Reds must attack.

Oh my, Oh my, why this happen. Riise, you are the villian!!!!! If I am Rafa, I will put you on the transfer list this summer. Riise, you might cost Rafa the job if Liverpool do not progress to the final.

It's heart-breaking!!!! It's painful to concede a goal like this....why Rafa bring on Riise in the first place???

I'm too distraught to say further....

Don't Bet Against Liverpool

Liverpool have all but secured the 4th spot with a convincing 2-0 win away to Fulham. Rafa sent out his second team with the midweek Champion League Semi-Final on his mind. There were no Kuyt, Torres, Gerrard and Carragher in the starting line up.

It look like Fulham are in for a win when Rafa sent out this team. However, with Fulham lacking on quality in front of goal, Reina hardly has any saves to make. When Pennant blasted past Keller for 1-0, Liverpool was on total control.

The second half started the way as the first. Crouch made it 2-0 on the half hour mark to end Fulham's challenge. With this defeat, it signal the end Fulham status in the first flight football.

As a Liverpool fan, I'm absolutely delighted at this win as Liverpool stretched the lead for fourth spot to 8 points with 3 games to go. Liverpool virtually sealed the 4th spot after yesterday match. I do not see Everton getting any closer now. Liverpool can focus on their Champion League semi-final against Chelsea who still have a chance for the BPL title. That will be an additional distraction to them. The scenario looks perfect for Liverpool.

Don't against bet against Liverpool like I have found out..

No Europe Hangover

Liverpool capped a remarkable week on the field with a 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. With their rival Everton drawing at Birmingham, Liverpool widen the gap to 5 points for the fourth spot.

The first half was a half with few chances. Both teams are trying to break down the defence. Liverpool have 2 penalties appeal turned down. It was 0-0 at half time.

Liverpool opened the floodgate through Gerrard after a lovely one-two with Lucas. Torres got the second goal from a header after a superb cross from Gerrard. Substitue Voronin got the third goal in the 90th minutes.

Santa Cruz got the consolation goal for Blackburn in th 92nd minutes.

It was a professional display from Liverpool despite a tough European night during midweek.

Get them!!

Having seen Liverpool play this season, the club really need some solid wing players who can whip in dangerous cross, take on players and is devasating with their pace. I have shortlist 4 players and I hope Rafa can try to lure them to Anfield.

Morten Gamst Pedersen

He will provide the width Liverpool is lacking on the left side. Riise and Aurelio are not natural left wingers and Kewell is always "sick". Pedersen will whip in crossing for Crouch and Torres to attack. Though not pacy, he is deadly in free-kicks.

Aaron Lennon
I will smile if Liverpool gets him. He is blessed with pace and trickery. He will provide pace on the right and he can take on defenders. Opponent defender will have a headache marking him. Pennant should be sold. Babel and Lennon shall compete for the right wing spot.

David Bentley

He is the second "David Beckham". Deadly in free kicks. Bentley can provide Liverpool another option on the right with his power. He is a rising star.

If Liverpool can get these players, they are like Man Utd with so many match winners.

Boardroom Crisis

Just as Liverpool was celebrating their passage to the UCL semi-final, Tom Hick was said to ask Rick Parry to resign. This is another turn of event.

First, it was Gillet who wants out. Then Gillet revealed that he will not sell his 50% share to Hick. Then negotiation with DIC to buy the remaining share was broken down.

All this off the pitch crisis does not bode well for the club, most importantly the players's morale.

In my opinion, it was a wrong move to sell the share to the Americans. They have 'destroyed' the Liverpool culture. DIC would be a better owner.

I seriously hope that DIC will soon take over the club.

Anfield Power Down Gunners

I wish I was able to watch the match "live". I wish I was in Anfield last night. For it was one of the many great Eurporean nights. It would take a strong heart to endure such roller-coaster match. After watching the repeat telecast, I could feel that tension, angony and the joy as a Liverpool fan. It was a pulsating match that will even keep a neutral off his feet.

Liverpool was a goal down after 13 minutes but Hyppia equalizer on the half hour. His perfectly placed header gave the defender no chance as the ball hit the post and went into goal.

The second half saw Liverpool began the match brightly. There were more movements and the pass rarely went astray. On 65 mintues, a moment of brillance from Torres, who else, put Liverpool in the driving seat with a sublime piece of skill. Receiving the ball from the edge of the box, he went past on defender. With his back facing the goal, he turned and hit a unstoppable shot past Alunima. The Anfield crowd erupted.

Arsenal then made some changes, bringing on Van Persie and Theo Walcott. Then in the 83th minutes, Walcott evaded 5 Liverpool's tackes to slid the ball to Adebayor who made no mistake from inside the box. Liverpool was staring at elimination. Barely the fans can settled down, Ryan Babel won a penalty after Toure was alleged to have brought him down. Up came Captain Gerrard. The referee blew the whistle, Gerrard took the kick. Goal!!! Goal!!! Anfield erupted again in a most defeaning sound.

As when Arsenal was trying to score, Liverpool lunged a counter attack of their own. Kuyt scooped the ball into the Gunner's half. Babel beat Fabreges with his pace and put the ball past the helpless Alunmia. Game over. Liverpool is in the semi-final of the Champion League for the 3 times in 4 years.

The Arsenal players were stunned as they were only 4 minutues into dreamland. With this defeat, Liverpool have and must surely ended Arsenal's season in the space of 3 days.

Next up, Chelsea. Liverpool will meet Chelsea again for the 3rd time in the semi-final of the Champion League. Chelsea must be dreaded to face the Reds again. Liverpool will have the phycological advantage having eliminate Chelsea twice. However Chelsea will be more hungry this matter and will it be third time lucky for Liverpool? Let's us find out.

All Square Again

It's 1-1 for the second consecutive match at the Eimerates Stadium. The result suit Liverpool fine but dealt a fatal blow to Arsenal's title aspiration. Crouch's goal meant Arsenal need to chase the game. In the end, Arsene Wenger was left frustrated aagain.

On the whole match, Liverpool could claim all 3 points if not for Voronin's poor composure in front of goal. Overall, I'm pleased with the Reds performance. The way Liverpool conceded the game was worrying. Reina was not commanding enough. The defence looked shaky at set pieces. I hope things will inprove this Wednesday.

Now onto the return leg of the Champion League. With no injuries to both teams, the return leg at Anfield could prove to be an intriging match. Both team season will depend on the Champion League. Arsenal should be out of the title race after today match. I should say Arsenal in a dangerous team now. Now that Arsenal are out of the title race, they will divert on their focus and energy into the Anfield game. Liverpool will well be very cautious.
Hopefully, the 12th man of Liverpool will spur them to their 3rd Champion League semi-final in 4 years. And I hope Chelsea will not win their 2nd leg and it would be a dream semi-final.

Lucky Draw

The Reds manage to hold on to a credible but lucky draw at Arsenal. On Paper, the advantage is with Liverpool. Personally I feel that there is no advantage at all.

Liverpool must decide if they want to go on the offensive or just play for a 0-0 score in the second leg. A 1-1 scoreline will see the match go to extra time. There is a danger if Arsenal score because Liverpool must score the equalizer. This is leave gap for the pacy Arsenal to expose.

Credit must be given to Liverpool for grabbing the equalizer almost immediately. It was the only real attack Liverpool had. However, Liverpool was fortunate that the foul by Kuyt on Helb did not result in a penalty.

With the BPL with Arsenal this weekend, I wonder which team Rafa is putting out. Rafa must avoid defeat to consolidate fourth spot and on the other hand, the Champion League second leg to worry with.

It would be perfect if Liverpool draw this Saturday and then beat Arsenal on Thursday.

Go Liverpool Go..
