Liverpool needed a Gerrard penalty to remain top of the table.
The Reds dominate against a Portsmouth side coming and looking for a draw. They almost frustrate Liverpool until Gerrard intervene. It was not a pretty match. Pompey is getting by the departure of Harry Redknapp while Liverpool want to prove their win against Chelsea is no fluke.
Though it is not a convincing display by the Reds, what matter is the 3 points.
Come Saturday, Liverpool will travel to White Hart Lane for their clash with the rejevnated Spurs managed by - Harry Redknapp.
